This post from earlier somehow got posted to my other blog –
An article in today’s Economic Times reports that over 2/3 of the respondents want to start their own business. The sample consisted of 211 students and 1006 salaried professionals and these people were from the big cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad. Interesting, isn’t it? Also, very encouraging for the Indian economy. Startups bring innovation and in times such as these, with the global economy into recession, these could become the next big thing. Also, most of the respondents in the survey believe that now is the time to start a new venture, which is what I believe too. One of the reasons for this is that bigger companies become more circumspect when their profits start to decline – restricting themselves to their core competencies. Entrepreneurs can find niches where they can grow without much competition and make it big. By the time the economy gets better and the big guys start looking further again, these could become market leaders in their segments.
However, the question is – how many of these 2/3 respondents will ever take the leap into entrepreneurship?

Slumdog Millionaire secured 10 nominations at the Oscars and all our news channels are agog with news about it. I wonder if this movie would’ve recieved this much attention or these many nominations if it were made in India, by an Indian movie house. On the other hand, would it have recieved the same treatment either? No point in hypothesizing though. Hope they do win as many as possible of the awards.Link
